Also "Micro Theater" or "Microtheatre". A term used for small performances, in small spaces - often spaces not intended for theatrical performance, and frequently used for political purposes. It would appear that this concept is related to Augusto Boal's notion of "Invisible Theatre".
The same idea, of using small, economically viable, venues were on the rise in the new millennium, particularly so in economically strapped communities in Spain, Mexico and elsewhere. (See Giles Tremlett, 2013) The term mocro theatrew seems to be applied in this case as well. The term is also used for small cinema venues.

On its website the tiny 44-seater Alexander Upstairs in Cape Town, is referred to as a "microtheatre". However, it has none of the political agenda of the Boalean concept.
