David Dainow (1884-1961) was a journalist, poet, short story writer and playwright.

Biography
Born in Spitalfields, London in 1884, he came to South Africa after World War I to engage in Jewish social work and later serving as the editor of the Zionist Record.
He retired from that post and took up residence in Jerusalem, where he became an Israeli citizen. In 1960 he came to South Africa for a visit, but was contracted a fatal illness, from which he passed away in Johannesburg on 31 January, 1961.

As an author he wrote poetry and short stories, besides other works publishing an anthology of poetry entitled I see light: Poems (1951) and writing at least one one-act play, Holding Aloof (1927).
