The Trust was established in 2000 by Dr Fanie Marais as a formal continuation of the [[Mardene Marais Memorial Foundation]], that had been set up in 1990 in memory of Mardene Marais (28/08/1968- 18/10/1989), who had been a student at [[Rand Afrikaans University]] from 1987-1989.
