Betine van Zyl Smit is a classicist with an interest in Ancient Drama

Also referred to as B. van Zyl Smit and BVZ Smit in some sources.

Biography

She studied at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa, where she completed a doctorate. Having taught at three universities in South Africa, she joined the staff of the University of Nottingham in 2006. She retired at the end of July 2020 and was made an Honorary Associate Professor in the department.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Her research has inter alia focused on the reception of ancient drama in the later and modern world. Among her more relevant publications in this respect have been:
