Il grande viaggio is an Italian opera in four acts with a libretto by Oreste Arioli and music by Luigi Bezzio.

The original text

The opera, composed by two Italian immigrants living in South Africa, Dr Oreste Arioli and Dr Luigi Bezzio, is based on the Great Trek. The opera has 10 principal players and is set between 1837 and 1867.

The first production of the opera in Afrikaans was planned for Republic Day (31 May), 1965, but it appears the opera was not performed.
