This is one of a number of variant spellings found for the Dutch and Afrikaans surname.
Other versions include: Boonzaayer and the more commonly found Boonzaier.
They are used somewhat cavalierly by F.C.L. Bosman (1928 and 1980), who also often tends to refer to people by their surnames alone.
