Twee is Beter as Een (“Two are better than one”) is an Afrikaans one-act play by J.T. Martens.

The original text
A religious-didactic one-act play based on a Bible verse (Ecclesiastes 4: 9-10), the play deals with the need for missionaries in Mashonaland[1]. It tells of a middle-aged missionary doctor who convinces a nurse to accompany him and two friends on a missionary expedition.

Translations and adaptations
Performance history in South Africa
1967: Performed in the church in Wolseley.
1968: Performed in March at the Old Apostolic church in Wolseley by the local CJV (Christelike Jongeliedenvereniging, i.e. "Christian Youth Association"), a theatre group that would become known as the Môrester Amateur Toneelgroep (MAT), using the title of the play as their motto.
1968: Performed in Malmesbury in June 1968.
