The Barney Simon Young Directors and Playwrights Festivals is the joint name for two initiatives by the Market Theatre to develop the talent of young South African directors and playwrights.
Initiated by by Lara Foot-Newton and named in commemoration of director Barney Simon, the Barney Simon Young Directors' Festival was the first founded (in 1998), followed in 2000 by a Barney Simon Young Playwrights Festival. They are often referred to jointly.
