A certain Mr Charles (also referred to as Lord Newry) is mentioned as a guest actor in a special performance put on for the Duke of Edinburgh's second visit to the Cape Colony in 1867.
This is probably a reference to Francis Charles Needham, 3rd Earl of Kilmorey KP ADC (2 August 1842 – 28 July 1915)[[1]], styled "Viscount Newry" from 1851 to 1880, and an officer in the North Shropshire Yeomanry Cavalry and later politician.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
The special performance put on by Mrs Duret and her company in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town, on 17 September, 1876, with three members of the Duke's entourage in the cast: Messrs Charles (Lord Newry), E.C. Yorke and FitzGeorge.
