The "Celebrated Grotesque" is a reference to an act put on by Mr Harvey, a member of the Disney Roebuck company in 1878. It was billed as an inserted act at a number of performances of what is referred to as the "Second Edition" of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town, opening on 18 February.
