The Mother-in-Law is the title given by D.C. Boonzaier (1923) for an anonymous play performed in Cape Town in 1894.

The original text
Though Bosman (1980) suggests this may be (a dramatised version of) a satirical work by George R. Sims (1847-1922)[], called Memoirs of a Mother-in-Law (London, George Newnes, 1892), it may also be a reference to How to Tame Your Mother-in-Law, a one-act farce Henry James Byron (1835-1884)[] (originally produced at the Strand Theatre, London, May 30th, 1864).
