The Degenerates is a play by Sydney Grundy (1848–1914)[1].

The original text
Opened at the Haymarket Theatre, London, starring Lily Langtry, opening on 31 August, 1899, and playing till 14 October. It went on to play on Broadway from during January and February, 1900, and was later taken on tour.
Translations and adaptations
Performance history in South Africa
1906: Performed by the Lily Langtry and company in the Opera House, Cape Town, then under the Wheeler Brothers' management, opening on 5 February. It was the opening performance of her first visit to South Africa .
