DStv (Digital Satellite Television) is a South African based African direct broadcast satellite service.

Owned by MultiChoice, the service launched in 1995 and now provides multiple channels and services to around 11.9 million subscribers in Sub-Saharan Africa (Africa excluding North Africa and Somalia)

Pay-television came to South Africa in 1986 with an analogue, single-channel service called M-Net created by Naspers. In 1993 Naspers expanded by founding a subsidiary company, Multichoice, to handle the business arm of M-Net (e.g. decoder sales, subscriber services and account management) and in 1995 Multichoice announced that it was launching a new digital, satellite service in South Africa to be known as DStv. This was officially launched on 6 October 1995.
