Two performers by this name seem to have performed in South Africa.
Mr Norton (fl 1840s)
He was an actor and member of All the World's a Stage. Acted as one of the stewards for the Roeland Street Theatre, inter alia for a production of Charles XII and The Irish Tutor on 22 August, 1845.
Mr Norton (fl 1860s)
He was a singer and actor, and member of the "original" Christy Minstrels that visited South Africa in 1862. He was apparently an accomplished actor and one of two members who performed in blackface, "delineating a nigger characters".
The company's successful appearances had a huge impact on popular entertainment in Cape Town and the country during the 19th century.
