H.B. Thom Theatre is the theatre built for the University of Stellenbosch Drama Department in 1966, and was named after the then incumbent rector of the University, Prof H.B. Thom.


Revamped and enlarged in 2016-2017, reopened in 2018, the new multi-facility theatre centre was renamed after the South African poet, playwright and academic, Adam Small. The old name has however been retained on the historic ornamental front façade of the building, to acknowledge the history of the venue.

The new name was officially inaugurated on 23 November, 2018, with a performance of the musical tribute called Adam Small Bejazzed, featuring Natalia de Rocha and members of the Cape Town based Applauz Arts Initiative and an extract from the production Cry, Our Beloved Country. Met/Sonder Apologie by drama students directed by Mareli Hattingh Pretorius.
