Bergen en Dalen ("mountains and dales") is a Dutch version of an unnamed German play in two acts by Julius Roderich Benedix (1811-1873)[1]
Also found is a two act play called Bergen en Dalen Onmoeten Elkanderen Niet, Maar de Menschen Wel[2], ("mountains and dales do not meet each other, but people do"), apparently a Dutch version of a French play by Dortoit and Desforges (published by J.Sacre in Brussels).

The original text
The Dutch translation of the Benedix play was done by Jan Schuitemaker (fl. 1865). Published for the Rederijkers in Purmerende by Schuitemaker, 1861.

Performance history in South Africa
1868: Performed by Aurora II in the hall of the Germania Liedertafel in Cape Town on 4 June, with Ferdinand de Speler (Nieuwmeyer).
1873: Performed in Dutch by Aurora II in the Oddfellows Hall, Cape Town, on 8 May, with De Diamanten der Kroon (Scribe, et al.).
1879: Performed in Dutch by Aurora II in the Athenaeum Hall, Cape Town, on 28 August, with De Gebochelde (Regland).
