Tobias and the Angel is a play by Scottish playwright James Bridie [1] (1888-1951).
The original text
The play was written in 1930 and based on Bridie's experiences while he was in the medical corps in Mesopotamia during World War One (1914-1918).
South African productions
1944: Presented by the Eoan Dramatic Group in Cape Town, 1944, directed by Rosalie van der Gucht.
1947: Presented by the Cape Town Repertory Theatre Society at the Little Theatre in November, directed by Joyce Burch.
1955: Produced by National Theatre Organisation in 1955, directed by Elizabeth Sneddon, with Frank Wise, Peter Boyce, Pieter Geldenhuys, Zoë de Villiers, Joanna Douglas, Leonard Graham, Brian Proudfoot, Jane Potgieter, Glenys Morgan.
