Ryk Hattingh (1957-2017) is a South African journalist, critic, playwright and author, who has emigrated to New Zealand. His first published novella was Die Tonnel ("The Tunnel") (Minotaurus, 1984) and his first play was Sing jy van Bomme ("If you sing about Bombs") (1986). Other plays include Mynhoop - 'n Nokturne (1994) and Eensnaar (2001).
He died of a heart attack in New Zealand on 10 October 2017.
