Pippin

Pippin is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (1948-)[1] and a book by Roger O. Hirson (1926-)[2].

The original text

The work was originally conceived and performed as a student musical titled Pippin, Pippin and performed by Carnegie Mellon University's Scotch'n'Soda theatre troupe.

Reworked by Stephen Schwartz, one of the original authors, and playwright Roger O. Hirson, with some additions to the libretto by Bob Fosse, who directed and choreographed the original Broadway production that opened at the Imperial Theater on October 23, 1972 and closing on June 12, 1977 after 1,944 performances.

1975: First performed in South Africa at His Majesty's Theatre, Johannesburg, by CAT Productions, directed, choreographed and designed by Des Lindberg with Bess Finney, Sammy Brown, Jo-Ann Pezarro, Hal Watters, Taliep Petersen, Sophia Foster, Robin Dolton and Andre Hattingh

1986: Presented from 9 to 26 April by The Company of Theatre Arts at the St John's Theatre, Durban, directed by Jeanne Beauchamp.
