Die Uur van Vergelding ("The hour of retribution") is a title found for two plays performed in South Africa

(The title Uur van Vergelding is also found.)

There is also an Afrikaans novel called Uur van Vergelding by Pierre J. Fourie (19**).

Die Uur van Vergelding by McGuire/Gunther (1930)

Die Uur van Vergelding is the Afrikaans title of a popular play about divorce performed by the Hanekom Company. According to the programme the play was by "Friedrich Gunter", an attribution repeated by Wena Naude as late as 1973 (Die Brandwag, 14 September 1973). She indicated that it had been translated by Mrs. A.E. Carinus-Holzhausen.

However, according to Ludwig Binge (1969), this was more likely to have been a translation of The Divorce Question, a popular American play by William Anthony McGuire. Thus Gunter may have translated it into Dutch or German (and the Afrikaans version based on that), or else the fictional name was simply used to avoid copyright issues.
