Die Pierneefteater (“The Pierneef Theatre”), Pretoria, is named after the famous South African painter (and scene-painter), J.H. Pierneef. Founded in 2003 on the grounds of the Hoërskool Hendrik Verwoerd (a high school) in Villieria, Pretoria, to offer new and established artists a venue to perform in. Managed by Ms Jopie Koen, It can seat 150 - 170 people. It links with the Music Centre and Drama Studio of the high school, whose students also use the stage on occasion, and offer children’s theatre during vacations.
Besides cabaret artistes and popular bands, theatre artists who have appeared there include Wilna Snyman, Patrick Mynhardt, Petru Wessels,Carel Trichardt, Rika Sennett, Bettie Kemp en Paul Eilers.
