Alby Michaels (19*-) is a director, designer, dramaturg and performer.

Biography

Training

He holds BA Drama Degree cum Laude.

Career

He joined UJ Arts and Culture in 2004 and has been Resident Director there since 2011.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

His work as performer includes roles in Vonke uit Vuurklip (1999) and Die Joburg Zoo Storie (Wim Vorster).

His television roles include "Luke Taylor" in One Way (2006-2007) and as "Allan Duncan" in Inkaba, (2012-2013).

As director he has done a large number of productions, including Sing (Roodepoort, 2008, Pretoria and KKNK, 2010), The Crucible (2011), Comrade Babble (2012), Equus (2013), Marat/Sade (2014).

As designer he did the designs for the UJ Arts and Culture production of Boesman and Lena (2016).
