In 1978-1982 he completed a B.A. Honours Degree in Drama, specializing in Religious Drama, at the University of Pretoria, and in 1984 – 1985 completed a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Religious Studies at the Jubilee International Bible College and then a Master's Degree in Drama and Theology at the University of Pretoria (1987 – 1991) with a thesis on ''Evangelistiese Drama'' ("Evangelical drama").
