La Machine Infernale ("The Infernal Machine") is a French play by Jean Cocteau (1889-1963)[1].

The original text
Based on Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, the play was written in 1932 and was first performed on the 10th of April, 1934 at the Comédie des Champs-Élysées in Paris. First published in 1934 by Éditions Bernard Grasset.
Translations and adaptations
Translated into English as The Infernal Machine, by Albert Bermel, first performed at the Phoenix Theatre, New York, in 1958.
