The original text
Originally premiered in London at the Royal National Theatre's Lyttelton Theatre on June 13, 1997. It was directed by Richard Eyre and starred Judi Dench, Ronald Pickup and Samantha Bond in the title role. It was then performed on Broadway on April 15, 1999.
Performance history in South Africa
1999: The South African première produced by Pieter Toerien Productions at the National Arts Festival, 1999. Directed by Alan Swerdlow, starring Sandra Prinsloo with Patricia Sanders, Duncan Lawson, John Whiteley, Christopher Beasley and Jana van Niekerk as Amy. The same production was staged in the Theatre on the Bay in July 1999 and in the Alhambra Theatre in Johannesburg from August to October 1999. Set and lighting design by Jannie Swanepoel.
