Das Große Loos ("The great prize") is a German comedy in 1 act by Johann Gottfried Lucas Hagemeister (1762-1806)[1].

The play is also known in German as Das Lotterieloos ("The Lottery Prize").

The original text

Performed in the Königliche Nationaltheater in 1791 and published in Berlin by Petit and Schöne in 1791.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Dutch as Het Hoogste Lot (lit. "The highest destiny or prize") by Adriaan Hordijk Verstolk and published in Amsterdam by Jan Helders and Abraham Mars, 1795.

Performance history in South Africa

1818: Produced in Dutch by the amateur company Tot Nut en Vermaak on 10 October in their own theatre, as afterpiece to Dienspligt (Iffland).

1873: Produced in Dutch by the amateur company Door Yver Bloeit de Kunst on in the Odd Fellow's Hall, Cape Town, as afterpiece to De Tooveres Sydonia (Zschokke/Engelman).
