History

Structure

The venue was devoid of proper wing space, backstage area and lighting equipment.


Productions

John Connell presented seasons of up to eight operas in the 1940’s. Alfred Herbert presented the first of his African Jazz/Township Jazz concerts in 1956 at the City Hall. David Bloomberg and Percy Tucker brought Murray Banks to South Africa in 1960. Banks performed here, Benoni, the Transvaal , Rhodesia and the Cape Province. Mickey Katz performed here in 1961. **** Moloto-World mounted Shaka, King of the Zulus here in 1965.
