Published as Das Gewissen: Ein Burgerliches Trauerspiel in Funf Aufzugen by Walter de Gruyter, 1799 and in W. Iffland's dramatische Werke by G. J. Göschen, 1799.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Dutch as Het Geweten by Jan Willem Jacobus Steenbergen van Goor, published in Amsterdam by Wed. J. Doll, 1802. (The title also occurs as Het Geweeten in an early South African production.)

Translated into English as Conscience by Benjamin Thompson (1776?-1816). Published in the series German theatre (Vol. 4), printed by J. Cundee, for Vernor and Hood, in 1800.
