Biography
Born in Beaufort West, South Africa in November 1949. After having worked as a journalist in Cape Town, he moved to Namibia in 1979.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Philander's plays normally premier at The Warehouse in central Windhoek but many of his works have been presented outside of Namibia as well.
Among the plays he wrote are The Porridge Queen, The Teacher, Election Kaskenades, Koning van die Ashoop, The Black Pilgrim, Joanie Galant (a translation of Adam Small's play), The Curse (aka Katutura ’59), Tarzan, Koning van die Rubbish Dump,The Railway Man.
Will of a Diehard Man received acclaim for it's theatrical impact at the South African SACPAC playwright competition.
