History
Founded as Gallophone Records in 1932 by Eric Gallo, this was the first South African recording company (later known simply as Gallo Records) and produced much of the local music, and supported many individual artists.

The talent scout, musician and theatrical entrepreneur Griffiths Motsieloa worked for and was supported by them.
The Gallo Award
Part of the DALRO Awards (1972-2003/4) Awarded for the best performance in a musical or revue, either in English or Afrikaans in Johannesburg and Pretoria. Sponsored by Gallo Records.
