''The Bells'' A one-act play by Leopold Lewis (1828-1890). First performed at the Lyceum Theatre, London, on November 25, 1871, starring Sir Henry Irving as Mathias.  Notable in South Africa for being a play involved in the launching of the South African theatrical careers of two notable businessmen, [[Barney Barnato]] (who played "Matthias" in the Kimberley production) and that other pugilist-actor [[Harry Stodel]], whose name first appears in its programme at [[Rowley's Music Hall]], Johannesburg August 1890.
