Blitzbreeker and the Chicken from Hell is a play by Ian Fraser. Full-length. Cast: men.** The play is about a yuppie who tries to enjoy a quiet Friday but has to cope with a wild ex-soldier instead. It is a black comedy which deals with the nature of war.
Performance history in South Africa
1990: Presented by CAPAB in the Nico Arena 7-28 April 1990 and at the National Arts Festival, 1990, directed by Norman Coombes, starring Willie Fritz as Phillip and Jonathan Pienaar as Blikkies. Design by Birrie le Roux, lighting by Des Spijker.
This production won the Amstel Pick of the Fringe Award at the National Arts Festival in 1990.
1991: A production at The Laager, Market Theatre was directed by Bobby Heaney starring Jonathan Pienaar, Jurgen Hellberg and two chickens (who alternate), Matthew and Koekoek. Lindy Roberts was responsible for the set and Wesley France for the lighting.
