George Formby (1904-1961) [1]. Lancashire comedian and music hall entertainer. Born George Hoy Booth, son of James Booth (the entertainer George Formby, Sr. - 1875-1921). Became the best paid entertainer on stage and film in England in between 1934 and 1945. In 1946 Beryl Formby and George toured South Africa under the auspices of ACT, playing at the Colosseum Theatre. He also played to black audiences while here.
