The original text
A struggling cobbler in Denmark, Hans Christian Andersen is better at making stories than shoes. As he discovers his potential as a storyteller and writer, he ultimately gets the help he needs from the people who love him to make a future for himself.
The musical is an adaptation of the 1952 musical film, starring Danny Kaye.

1983: An adaptation presented by Children's Theatre Productions at the Intimate Theatre, directed by Joyce Levinsohn and Jill Girard.
1986: The Loesser musical produced by NAPAC in the Opera Theatre at the Natal Playhouse, directed by Geoffrey Sutherland.
1992: The Loesser musical presented by Dramatic Society of East London at the Guild Theatre, directed by Michele Brandenburger.
