Brad Liebl (?-?) was a teacher and opera singer.

Training

Dr. Brad Liebl (MM DMA summa cum laude from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music).

Career

Liebl was an Associate Professor of Classical Voice and Co-ordinator (from 1998 to 2003) of that division at UCT. He was known throughout the Cape and other provinces as an interpretor of operatic leading roles, Lieder and oratorio. In these capacities, he graced the stages of Artscape (CAPAB), City Hall, the Baxter, Stellenbosch, Feather Market Square, Johannesburg Civic, Grahamstown, Bloemfontein and the Northwestern Province. In Germany he sang operetta and Lieder, and in the USA he appeared as a principal performer in oratorio and opera.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He sang the male leads in the world premieres of two new operas, The Lost Dauphin and Amarantha, and his CDs include the recording of Amarantha and songs of Rajna, Hely-Hutchinson and Chisholm (Songs for Ever and a Day w/Aviva Pelham and Thomas Rajna).

His work, The Abecedarian, was presented at the Cape Town Opera Festival in 1995.

Awards

In 2003, Dr. Liebl received a Distinguished Teacher Award from University of Cape Town.
