Ufahamu: A Journal of African Studies

Named after the Swahili word for "comprehension", "understanding" or "being", the journal was established in 1970 to publish material on African history, politics, economics, sociology, anthropology, law, planning and development, literature, culture, and other topics about the continent and the African Diaspora.

It is published under the auspices of the James S. Coleman African Studies Center (ASC) at the University of California at Los Angeles.
