The original text
Based on Mark Twain's classic 1884 novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, it has a book by William Hauptman and music and lyrics in bluegrass and country style by Roger Miller.
First staged by the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in February 1984, opening on Broadway at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on 25 April, 1985.
