Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a musical by Roger Miller and William Hauptman.

Also referred to simply as Big River in some sources.

The original text

Based on Mark Twain's classic 1884 novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, it has a book by William Hauptman and music and lyrics in bluegrass and country style by Roger Miller.

First staged by the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in February 1984, opening on Broadway at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on 25 April, 1985.

Performance history in South Africa

2009: Performed by The Young Performers Project (YPP), at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre, Durban. The leading roles were taken by Sam Pennington as "Huck", Bandile Hlophe as "Jim", Delwin van Jaarsveld as "The King" and John Didlick and Themi Venturas alternating as "The Duke". The rest of the cast of young people also included Ahmad Seedat, Aqeelah Hassim, Pavishen Paideya, Layla Ochse, Simo Dlamini and Thobeka Mkhwanazi.
