Crimes of the Heart [1] (1978) is a play by Beth Henley.

The original text

Set in the USA, it is a tragic comedy about three sisters, Meg, Babe, and Lenny, who reunite after Babe shoots her abusive husband.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Afrikaans as Hartsondes by Henry Mylne.

Performance history in South Africa

2004: Hartsondes staged at the KKNK in 2004, directed by Mylne, with Anthea Thompson, Elma Postma, Quinne Brown and Terence Bridgett.

2012: Performed in English by The Playhouse, Somerset West, under the direction of Kelly Westraad.
