Biography
Born of Dutch parents in Pretoria, Transvaal, on 11 November 1897
He married Hendrina Gezina Huetinck in 1928 and the couple had two daughters (Trixie and Rikie) and a son, Leendert Dekker.
Passed away in Klerksdorp on 10 April 1973
He was professor of Afrikaans Literature at the University of Potchefstroom for CHE
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
The author of a number of works on various aspects of South African literature. His best known book was Afrikaanse Literatuurgeskiedenis ("Afrikaans Literary History") (1935, 1967)
