Niël le Roux is a playwright, director and arts and culture manager.

Biography

Born in Villiersdorp, he had his schooling at the Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch (class of 1974) and the De Villiers Graaf High School, then studied Drama at the Stellenbosch Drama Department (final year 1980) and undertook further study at the University of Pretoria (MA) and the Technikon Pretoria (D.Tech Drama, 1999).

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

While a student at Stellenbosch he wrote and directed the play Sprokieskoningkryk van die Voortlewendes (1978) for production by university residences Huis Marais and Irene.

His career in the arts has encompassed inter alia being a founding member of the Kalfiefees, a senior manager at DALRO, a manager with the ATKV, CEO of the Suidoosterfees (2003 to 2014) and CEO of the Stigting vir Bemagtiging deur Afrikaans ("Foundation for empowerment through Afrikaans")[1]
