GOGGAS!

A South African Musical

6 November – 23 December 2018

Back by popular demand! National Children’s Theatre (NCT) is staging the Naledi Award-winning play GOGGAS! by Gillian Katz, adapted by Francois Theron, for a third season during the December School Holidays.

The production has been made possible by part of a grant from the National Lotteries Commission (NLC).

It’s a story to warm South African hearts. LADY CAROLINE, a beautiful British butterfly, has accidentally landed in South Africa. Join ANTIC the picnic ant on his travels through Jozi to help her find her way home. On their journey they meet typical local “goggas”: LOLA the Ladybird, CONNIE the Chameleon, Bumble Bee, the stick insects: TWIGGY AND LEAFY, the ever pompous old QUEEN BEE, HUGO the “Joller”, and various other colourful creatures.

LADY CAROLINE not only gets introduced to wonderfully typical South African goggas and characters but she also gets to sample some local delicacies like biltong and chakalaka! She learns about the cultures and different languages and even manages to make new friends and find love. Does she want to return to London?

The creative team

Director: Jade Bowers, Musical Director: Dale Scheepers, Choreography: Jaques de Silva, Costume Design: Sarah Roberts, Set Design: Stan Knight and Lighting Design: Jane Gosnell.
