The ''[[Barney Simon Young Directors and Playwrights Festivals]]'' is the joint name for two initiatives by the [[Market Theatre]] to develop the talent of young South African directors and playwrights.
 
 
 
Initiated by by [[Lara Foot-Newton]] and named in commemoration of director [[Barney Simon]],  the ''[[Barney Simon Young Directors' Festival]]'' was the first founded (in 1998), followed in 2000 by a ''[[Barney Simon Young Playwrights Festival]]''. They are often referred to jointly.
