Based on the eponymous novel by [[Jan van Melle]] (published by [[Nasionale Boekhandel]] in 1963), telling the story of Pop le Roux (gespeel deur Elize Cawood) is ’n mooi, maar betreklik onontwikkelde, boeremeisie uit ’n arm familie. Die jong mans van die kontrei ding almal met mekaar mee om haar guns te wen. Die man wat sy lief het, is Manie Cronjé, maar hy is net so arm en Pop sien nie kans om verder swaar te kry nie. Sy trou uiteindelik met Jan Greyling, die ryk wewenaar. Geleidelik pas sy haar by haar nuwe lewe aan en word ’n goeie vrou vir Jan. Maar jare later as hy sterf en Manie ook ’n wewenaar is, bewerkstellig sy dit so dat sy weer by Manie uitkom.

Verspeelde Lente ("lost spring") is an Afrikaans TV series produced by Visio Film Produksies.

The series

Based on the eponymous Afrikaans novel by Jan van Melle (published by Nasionale Boekhandel in 1963), the series tells the story of Pop le Roux, a beautiful but unsophisticated girl, the daughter of a poor farming family, her true love, the young farmer Manie Cronjé and the rich widower Jan Greyling.

With a script by Johan van Jaarsveld and directed by Manie van Rensburg, the series features Elize Cawood (as "Pop le Roux"), Ian Roberts ("Hermaans Cronjé"), Brian O'Shaughnessy ("Jan Greyling"), Tertius Meintjies ("Gert Greyling"), Wilma Stockenström ("Griet le Roux"), Limpie Basson ("Sagrys le Roux"), André Rossouw ("Job Cronjé") and Isabella Bosman ("Hessie Cronjé). Also in the cast are Dawie Maritz, Emile Aucamp, Jannie Gildenhuys, Pierre Louw, Etienne Pienaar, Ncediwe Mdunyelwa, Johan Liebenberg, Maria Schoeman and Sandra Temmingh.
