A playwright (or dramatist) is the name given to is a person who writes plays, i.e. the author of the written text (memorized,spoken and performed) when creating a stage performance. In film and TV productions the term is mostly replaced by scriptwriter (also referred to as a screenplay writer, screenwriter or scenarist).
