Simply referred to as [[Brougham]] in [[F.C.L. Bosman]]'s 1980 study, though listed as "[[John Brougham]]" in the '''''Index''''' to the book.
 
 
This latter reference is uncertain however, for , while some of Bosman's references are to an actor (simply known as [[Brougham]]), who visited the country with [[Disney Roebuck]] in 1873, the majority of times the reference is clearly to the prominent 19th century Irish-American playwright [[John Brougham]] (1814-1880)[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Brougham], whose plays were often performed in South Africa, but who did not visit the country himself.
