Freedom is a play devised by a number of African writers for the Moral Re-Armament (MRA) movement[1].

The original text
A play about a nationalist independence movement set in an imaginary West African country, Bokondo, under colonial rule, it was drafted by members of the MRA[2] movement at a meeting in Caux, Switzerland, with the key writers seeming to have been Ifoghale I. Amata from Nigeria (Act 1), Manasseh Moerane from South Africa (Act 2), and Abay-Ifaa Karbo from Ghana (Act 3).
The play was first performed by an African cast at the Westminster Theatre, London in 1955.
Translations and adaptations
The play was filmed as Freedom in Nigeria with a large cast during 1956, using a production unit from 12 countries and directed by Vernon Messenger (uncredited). The writers credited as Ifoghale I. Amata, Abay-Ifaa Karbo and Manasseh Moerane. The film had its premiere in Los Angeles, in 1957.
