Aus Liebe zur Kunst, oder Ein Singspiel ("Out of love of art, or a Singspiel " - literally "sing-play") is a German musical farce in one act by Gustav von Moser (1825-1903)[1].

Also referred to simply as Aus Liebe zur Kunst in some sources.

The original text

The play was first performed at the Wallner-Theater, Berlin and the libretto published by Eduard Bloch, L. Lassar's Buchhandlung in Berlin, Brüderstrasse Nr. 2, Berlin, in 1864 and again in 1873, with the music attributed to August Conradi (1821-1873)[].

Translations and adaptations

This is most probably the German original of the Moser play translated into Dutch as Het Zangerfeest ("the singer's festival") by an unnamed author.

Performance history in South Africa

Performed in Dutch as Het Zangerfeest by the rederijkerskamer Onze Taal in the Pretoria in the period 1891-1898.
