André Lemmer (1945-2020) was a teacher, a professor of Education, a language editor, an actor, a director and a writer.

Biography

Born in 1945,

Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Port Elizabeth[1] (today known as the Nelson Mandela University).

He was a long time resident at Schoenmakerskop in Port Elizabeth, where he was for many years at the helm of the Ratepayers Association.

He died of brain cancer on 24 August, 2020.

Theatre activities

He wrote about theatre and education, including an article on "Shakespeare among South African schoolchildren" in Shakespeare in Southern Africa (Volume 13, Issue 1).

He was one of the authors and one of the co-compilers of the African Folktales Onstage! (1 & 2), published by Junkets books.

He wrote the play Playing in the Park, which appeared in another Junkets publication, Short, Sharp & Snappy (plays for South African high schools).
