Haddon Hall is an English light opera with music by Arthur Sullivan (1842-1900)[1] and a libretto by Sydney Grundy (1848-1914)[2].

The original text
The opera is based on a nineteenth century legend about Dorothy Vernon's elopement in 1563 with John Manners, son of Thomas Manners, 1st Earl of Rutland.
The opera first opened at the Savoy Theatre on 24 September 1892, doing quite well. The work became particularly popular with amateur theatre groups, but since the late 1920s it has seen few productions.

1893: Performed in the Opera House Cape Town by the Lyric Opera Company, under the management of A. Bonamici and Edgar Perkins, as part of their repertoire while touring the country at the time.
